Before unveiling his new EP scheduled on February 7th, Obongjayar releases his sumptuous new single “Still Sun”.
With his unique mix of soul, downtempo hip-hop and ambient music, the Nigerian-born London-based singer Obongjayar is definitely an artists to watch closely in 2020. The artist has most notably worked alongside artists like Kamasi Washington, Giggs, Sampha, Ibeyi and appeared on Danny Brown’s critically acclaimed uknowhatimsayin¿. A few days ago, Steven Umoh aka Obongjayar just unleashed a brand new single as a preamble to his upcoming EP Which Way Is Forward?.
The track radiates warmth, with vocals that bend, twist and snap amid a momentous melody, continuing Obongjayar’s expressive style—a fine mix of spirituality and identity. Speaking about the EP, he says: “Which Way Is Forward?” is a project about love, family, self-empowerment and self-belief. It’s a mirror that allows you to look inward, to understand trauma, to heal. It’s a project about mustering the strength – the strength to get up and clean house.”
